Bay Media Lab is primarily an online community
with members participating from their commercial studios.

Bay Media Lab is a community of graphic artists, animators, videographers, producers, writers, and printers who desire to stay at the leading edge of technology for the benefit of their clients and colleagues by way of real-world experiments, such as political viral advertising produced during the Midterm Election of 2006, in collaberation with other professionals and activists. Professionals from all related trades and those who work with them are invited to participate or propose experiments.

Bay Media Lab founder
Howard Louis Vicini

Howard Vicini’s advertising and design career was based on an understanding of business processes, products, and services he represented, rather than on design as an art form. This allowed him to attract and maintain long relationships with a number of prestigious clients including San Francisco ’s Embarcadero Center , owed at the time by Prudential Realty, and Casella Lighting , a manufacturer and manufacturers’ rep for lighting and high-end hardware fixtures.Vicini built and served as president of Bel Age and its prepress subsidiary Stamar Studios. Later, as the prepress manager at Ampersand Design, he guided the company and trained the technical staff during the company’s transition from photographic to digital prepress processes. In each of these businesses he was the principal contact with the client base. Bel Age Design and Ampersand Design each employed 10 artists and highly-trained technicians including typography and color separation specialists. As a hands-on manager, Vicini was also recognized as a pioneer in the field of 4-6 color process, web lithography and process silk-screen printing.Vicini wrote as technical editor for OnLine Design Magazine, a regional, color tabloid magazine dedicated to exploring the then-merging field of digital design and prepress. This experience gave him an in-depth opportunity to learn to communicate effectively with hardware and software engineers for the purpose of translating geek-speak into a usable dialog for designers, printers, and consumers which became a trademark of his writing..
